Tradition and Future
Two and a half centuries after carpenter Kaspar Faber laid the foundations for the company in Stein near Nuremberg, Faber-Castell celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2011. Baron Lothar von Faber was particularly influential in the development of the traditional company; he created the first branded writing instrument in the world by labelling his pencils with the company name.
His motto was: ‘From the beginning, all I wanted to do was to catapult myself to the top by doing the best thing ever in the world.’ For Count von Faber-Castell, providing benefit for customers with unique products is still crucial for a successful future. The values that Lothar von Faber set out for the company – not only striving for the highest quality, but also social responsibility and its commitment to its employees – have remained unchanged to this day.
